No Fresh Firing reported in Capital Cities, Calm in border area

Despite a recently brokered ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, hostilities resumed within hours, casting doubt on the durability of peace along the volatile border.

On Saturday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that Pakistan had violated the ceasefire, prompting what he described as “adequate” and “appropriate” retaliation by the Indian Army. His remarks came just a day after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the truce and praised both nations for their leadership. Trump also expressed optimism about boosting trade ties with both India and Pakistan, claiming that Washington had played a key role in facilitating the ceasefire.

However, the ground reality told a different story.

Indian officials reported heightened activity along the border in Jammu and Kashmir, with drones sighted and explosions heard across multiple sectors including Jammu, Akhnoor, Poonch, and Rajouri. Border Security Force (BSF) personnel remain on high alert, particularly in light of recent infiltration attempts by operatives of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Still, by Sunday morning, there was a fragile calm in the region. Residents of key towns woke up to a quiet day—no shelling, no gunfire—for the first time in four days.

In response to the violations, Pakistan issued a statement on Sunday reaffirming its commitment to the ceasefire agreement. The statement urged continued dialogue and restraint at all levels, even as it was issued after reports of Saturday night’s border skirmishes.

Foreign Secretary Misri emphasized the need for Pakistan to act with “seriousness and responsibility,” warning that Indian forces had been instructed to respond decisively to any future provocations.

As tensions persist, the durability of the ceasefire remains uncertain, despite diplomatic reassurances and international backing. For now, the region watches and waits—cautiously.
