After three days of intense military hostilities, India and Pakistan have reached an “understanding” to cease military action and cross-border firing, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
According to official sources, the agreement was a bilateral decision and will not affect the recent punitive measures taken by India in response to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. These actions remain firmly in place.

However, shortly after the announcement of the ceasefire on Saturday evening, multiple instances of cross-border firing were reported from Pakistan along the Jammu border. A Border Security Force (BSF) official stated, “There was heavy firing till 7:30 p.m.; an appropriate and commensurate response was being given.”

The situation remains tense despite the announced understanding, as security forces continue to stay on high alert along the border.
