The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls commenced today at the University of Jammu. This event, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, aims to promote sports among young female athletes.
On the opening day, around 300 girl athletes from various government and private schools showcased their skills in track and field events with remarkable enthusiasm. The participants, ranging across different age categories, exhibited their strength and sporting spirit.
During the discus throw events, several athletes delivered outstanding performances. In the U-19 category, Sweety Devi from Zone Marh clinched the gold medal, followed closely by Konika Chib from Zone RS Pura earning silver, and Renu from Zone Bishnah taking home the bronze medal. In the U-17 age group, gold went to Nidhi Verma from Zone Satwari, with Kiran Kumari from Zone Bhalwal and Nirjala from Zone Bishnah securing silver and bronze. For the U-14 category, Subhana from Zone Satwari topped the event, while Sonakshi from Zone Miran Sahib and Mansi from Zone Akhnoor claimed silver and bronze respectively.
The 100m races produced thrilling results. Damanpreet from Zone Bishnah won gold in the U-14 category, followed by Nishta Sharma from Zone Jammu in U-17, and Shivani from Zone Jammu in the U-19 category.
Additionally, in the 400m events, Sahiba Choudhary from Zone Dansal emerged victorious in the U-14 category, while Nishta Sharma demonstrated her prowess again, dominating the U-17 category.
The 300m race saw Mehak from Zone Jammu claim the gold in the U-19 group, with Sonia Choudhary from Zone Dansal taking the title in the U-17 category.
In track events, the high jump also showcased remarkable talent. Shriya Bhagat from Zone Chowki Choura, Rohika Devi from Zone Chowki Choura, and Payal Kumari from Zone Chowki Choura impressed the audience with their performances, each securing gold medals in their respective age groups.
DYSSO Jammu, along with technical officials Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, Vijay Sharma, and Harsimran Singh, awarded medals to the top performers. They congratulated winners and encouraged all participants to uphold the principles of dedication, discipline, team spirit, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
This competition not only highlights the talent available among young female athletes in Jammu but also encourages widespread participation in sports, opening avenues for future national-level competitions.
