In Mathura, police arrested a man named Sunit alias “Katua” for allegedly issuing a death threat to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The arrest occurred on Friday evening. Sunit, a resident of Nagla Hardayal, reportedly threatened to kill the Chief Minister in a social media video.
In the alarming video, Sunit brandished a pistol and vowed to shoot CM Yogi before September 25, and claimed he would subsequently take his own life. He displayed a magazine containing nine bullets, warning that he would use them all.
Sunit expressed deep frustration, stating that he had submitted complaints to the Chief Minister’s office about his concerns but felt neglected. This perceived inaction pushed him to resort to such drastic measures.
The situation escalated when police attempted to arrest Sunit at his home. He barricaded himself inside and fired from the third floor, threatening to shoot himself. After a nearly hour-long standoff, police successfully subdued and apprehended him. Officers seized a pistol along with live cartridges from his possession.
Local residents revealed that Sunit had been experiencing mental distress, often vocalizing his personal problems loudly. Many described his behavior as unstable in recent months, raising concerns within the community.
The video of his threat circulated widely on social media, prompting swift intervention by law enforcement agencies. Authorities are currently investigating how he obtained the firearm and clarifying the motive behind his threatening statements.
A case has been filed against Sunit under several serious charges, including criminal intimidation, inciting violence, and illegal possession of firearms. The investigation continues.
