In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir police arrested three alleged drug peddlers, including a 17-year-old boy, in Samba and Kathua districts on Monday. Authorities aim to address the rising trend of drug abuse in the region.
The incident unfolded late Sunday evening when police intercepted the teenager on a motorcycle near JDA Colony in the Bari Brahmana area of Samba. During a routine check, officers recovered 3.36 grams of heroin from his possession.
A police spokesman confirmed that the minor was apprehended along with the motorcycle, which has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation. The police have registered a case against him under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Following legal procedures, the teenager was presented before the competent authority and subsequently sent to the observation home in R S Pura, Jammu. The involvement of a minor in drug-related crime raises serious concerns about the impact of narcotics on the younger population.
In a separate operation, police apprehended two additional drug smugglers in the Billawar area of Kathua district. During a similar checking operation late Sunday, officers seized 23 grams of heroin from the suspects, identified as Pawan Dev Singh from Majalta (Udhampur) and Naresh Singh from Makwal-Ramkot (Kathua).
Authorities have also filed a case against these two individuals under the NDPS Act. These arrests reflect the persistent issue of narcotics trafficking affecting Jammu and Kashmir, prompting law enforcement to increase vigilance and enforcement efforts.
