A cloudburst struck the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district early on Saturday, damaging several houses and structures. The incident took place at around 2:30 a.m., unleashing a flash surge of water and debris, officials confirmed. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or fatalities.
The relentless rainfall preceding the cloudburst prompted the Meteorological Department to predict intense showers throughout Jammu and Kashmir. They warned that the conditions posed a high risk of flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging in vulnerable regions.
Immediately following the cloudburst, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Chatroo, accompanied by police personnel and civil administration teams, rushed to the site. They swiftly began damage assessment and initiated relief measures, ensuring the affected community received necessary aid. Restoration work is already underway.
In related news, heavy rainfall also caused severe waterlogging in the Pahlipora area of Shopian district in South Kashmir. Rainwater inundated several households, prompting the deployment of police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) units to conduct rescue and relief operations.

They advise people to remain vigilant and refrain from venturing close to streams, nallahs, and unstable slopes until conditions improve.
