Congress Attacks PM Modi Over Rising Unemployment Crisis

The Congress party on Thursday sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government as rising unemployment in India becomes a pressing concern. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted the government’s continuous focus on election narratives rather than tackling urgent economic issues.

Addressing reporters, Ramesh stated that the past 11 years under Modi’s leadership have led to dissatisfaction across various segments of society. He emphasized,“Rising unemployment has become a matter of grave concern.”

In a post on social media platform X, he outlined the widespread discontent: “Students, youth, farmers, labourers, workers, shopkeepers, employees, businessmen – not a single section is happy with this government. Inflation is skyrocketing, the value of the rupee is continuously falling, and the gap between the rich and poor is widening.” Ramesh pointed out that these factors combined have severely affected the daily lives of poor and middle-class families.

Ramesh referenced a recent report by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), indicating that India’s unemployment rate increased to 7.5% in October 2025, marking the highest rate in six months. This alarming figure underscores the urgent need for government intervention to address job losses.

“Millions of individuals have lost their jobs across various sectors, including construction and IT banking,” he stated. Ramesh emphasized the crisis further by revealing that over 90 lakh jobs vanished solely in the construction sector, while salaried positions shrank by 25 lakh.

These statistics underscore an ongoing trend, with Ramesh remarking that such alarming figures have emerged consistently over the last decade, yet the Modi government remains unperturbed. His critique targets Modi directly, emphasizing, “It seems Modi ji has no concern for the youth of this country. Always in election mode, he is busy crafting new speeches and narratives to distract the public instead of solving the unemployment crisis.”

The Congress party has maintained a steady critique of the Modi administration’s economic policies, asserting that rising prices, declining private investment, and stagnant wages have collectively burdened ordinary citizens. The party insists that immediate action is necessary and that the government should prioritize real economic reforms and job creation, rather than political rhetoric and propaganda.

Expert commentators have noted the urgency of the unemployment situation. Several analysts argue that without significant intervention focused on job creation and economic stability, India risks further exacerbating public disillusionment. Trend patterns indicate that without structural reforms, the youth of India may face bleak employment prospects.

As the Congress presses its point, the pressure mounts on the Modi administration to address the serious economic challenges facing the nation. The call for action is clear: citizens demand a shift from political posturing to genuine policy solutions, particularly in the context of soaring unemployment.

With the political landscape heading into a sensitive election season, analysts suggest the government’s response to this dire situation could significantly affect public sentiment and electoral outcomes. Mobilizing economically disaffected demographics may prove critical for future political strategies.
