First-Ever Thrombolysis for Stroke at GMC Doda: A Milestone

Doda witnesses a healthcare breakthrough as the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda successfully performed its first thrombolysis for a stroke patient on November 2, marking a transformative moment for emergency healthcare in the Chenab Valley.

This innovative procedure took place under the expert leadership of Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and Head of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Amir Hussain Parray. For the first time, local residents can access advanced stroke treatment, eliminating the need for critical transfers to GMC Jammu or distant healthcare facilities.

The patient, identified as Roshan Lal, hailing from Devisar in Dolli village, arrived at GMC Doda exhibiting classic stroke symptoms. He received immediate care from an adept team led by Dr. Govinder Kumar (MD Medicine), assisted by Dr. Divyanshu and Dr. Momin. Their expertise, complemented by robust support from Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Arif Mir, and the nursing staff, ensured the high standards of patient care were upheld.

Following the thrombolytic therapy, doctors reported that Lal responded positively and is now on the path to recovery. This successful intervention not only provides hope for victims of stroke but also signifies a major enhancement in the region’s healthcare capabilities.

Prior to this achievement, acute stroke patients in Doda and nearby regions faced significant challenges due to the extended travel time needed for treatment. Often, delays in accessing specialized care could lead to severe health consequences. With the thrombolysis procedure now available locally, patients can receive timely, world-class stroke management without the burden of lengthy transfers.

Dr. Rakesh Bahl expressed pride in the medical team’s accomplishment, stating, “This is a landmark achievement for GMC Doda and a reassurance for thousands of individuals in remote areas who can now access advanced treatment without delay.”

Dr. Amir Hussain Parray mirrored this enthusiasm, emphasizing, “This success illustrates our team’s growing capabilities and unwavering commitment to emergency medicine. It stands as both a medical breakthrough and a beacon of hope for the entire Chenab region.”

The community has welcomed this news with widespread appreciation, celebrating the commitment to bolster rural healthcare infrastructure. As the importance of timely treatment during the golden hour of stroke onset becomes increasingly recognized, this successful thrombolysis procedure at GMC Doda could very well redefine emergency medical responses in the area. Local residents can now feel secure knowing that high-quality healthcare is within reach, ultimately saving lives.
