Mahagathbandhan Leaders Finalise Bihar Seat-Sharing Today

The Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) convenes in Delhi today to finalize seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. This meeting is a critical step, allowing leaders to address the internal dynamics of the coalition.

The key figures attending include RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, his son Tejashwi Yadav, and representatives from smaller alliance partners. They aim to engage in thorough discussions with the Congress on their allocation of seats ahead of the elections.

The significance of the meeting intensifies as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has already announced its seat-sharing formula, increasing the urgency for the opposition bloc to find common ground. Internal pressures within the Mahagathbandhan have surfaced recently, creating a need for cohesion.

Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni, an ally in the Mahagathbandhan, acknowledged the coalition’s challenges. He commented humorously, “Mahagathbandhan has become a bit unwell. We are going to Delhi, and all the doctors are in Delhi, so better treatment will happen there.” His intention was to underscore the coalition’s need for resolution among its members in Delhi.

Bihar Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan, however, aimed to allay concerns regarding potential rifts. He affirmed, “A meeting will be held, and everything will be finalised. The Mahagathbandhan is united, and the current corrupt government is certain to go.” His statement reflects confidence in the alliance’s capacity to present a united front against the NDA.

Under the NDA’s recently unveiled seat-sharing pact, Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) and the BJP will each contest 101 seats. Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) received 29 seats, while the Hindustani Awam Party (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) will each contest six seats.

With elections for the 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly set for November 6 and 11, voters are eager for clarity on party affiliations and candidate selections. The counting of votes will occur on November 14, intensifying the preparations for all political parties involved.

This crucial meeting embodies the Mahagathbandhan’s effort to solidify its position ahead of the Bihar elections. As the political landscape evolves, the alliance aims to emerge stronger and present a formidable challenge against the NDA.
