RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat reinforced the organization’s commitment to character building during the centenary Vijayadashami event in Nagpur on Thursday. Despite persistent invitations to engage in politics, he asserted that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) maintains its core mission of ‘vyakti nirman’ (character building).
Speaking to a gathering of swayamsevaks, Bhagwat articulated reflections from the organization’s century-long journey. He insisted that reforms in the global order should emerge slowly and thoughtfully to avert societal destruction. “India must showcase a development model anchored in dharma, offering it to the world,” he stated.
Elaborating on dharma, Bhagwat clarified that it transcends mere rituals or traditions, serving as a foundational principle uniting society. He highlighted that social transformation stems from embodying values of integrity, selflessness, and leadership—traits that RSS aims to foster through its shakhas.
Bhagwat reiterated that for the past century, the RSS has resisted political temptations. “The Sangh has focused solely on running shakhas and character-building,” he emphasized, firmly placing vyakti nirman as the pathway to meaningful social change.
During his address, he recognized India’s rich tapestry of languages, faiths, lifestyles, and traditions, urging citizens to view this diversity as a strength. “All communities, including those who adopted foreign religions, are part of the larger Indian identity,” he remarked, advocating for social harmony and mutual respect, while rejecting all forms of violence.
Bhagwat also condemned public disorder and communal disharmony, calling on law enforcement agencies to operate impartially. He urged society, especially the youth, to stay vigilant and organized, intervening where necessary to protect peace and unity.
As the RSS celebrates its centenary, Bhagwat’s message resonates with its enduring philosophy of character building and social upliftment, prioritizing societal progress over political involvement.
