The President of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Tariq Hameed Karra, has called for an impartial judicial probe into the violence that erupted in Leh on September 24, in which four individuals tragically lost their lives. Karra firmly stated that the investigation should be conducted by a sitting High Court judge. If that is not feasible, he urged authorities to appoint a retired judge of integrity to ensure accountability.
Karra expressed his concerns during a press conference, stating, “Whatever happened in Leh should not be repeated, but there must be an inquiry. If a sitting High Court judge is not available on fast track, then the probe should be entrusted to a credible retired judge.” His demand highlights the need for transparency and justice in the aftermath of this unfortunate incident.
On the same day, Karra took a moment to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries. Reflecting on their legacies, he emphasized their profound leadership, ideology, and commitment to a self-reliant India. The impact of Gandhian philosophy remains significant, as it continues to inspire global movements even being acknowledged at the United Nations.
Additionally, regarding the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, Karra informed the media that decisions regarding seat sharing and alliances would be taken by the Congress leadership at the central level. He mentioned that senior leader Digvijay Singh has been appointed as an observer to facilitate these discussions. This strategic approach signifies the Congress party’s intention to strengthen its position in the upcoming elections.
Karra also addressed the situation concerning Independent legislator Mehraj Malik, asserting that he should be permitted to attend the Assembly session. In his remarks, Karra pointed out, “Even Engineer Rashid was allowed to participate in Parliament while lodged in Tihar Jail. By the same analogy, Mehraj Malik should also be allowed.” His statement reflects a broader call for fair treatment and inclusivity within the legislative framework.
