Ahead of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a comprehensive long-range patrolling and an anti-terror mock drill in Samba district on Tuesday. This initiative aims to assess operational preparedness, strengthen security arrangements, and ensure a prompt response to any potential threats, as stated by an official.
The long-range patrolling operation, executed by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, spanned nearly 20 kilometers from Jatwal to Lala Chak along the Jammu-Pathankot national highway. A police spokesman disclosed that the objective of the patrol was to foster vigilance and readiness in the region.
Following the patrol, the police executed a mock drill at the border police post in Lala Chak, designed to evaluate the personnel’s preparedness during a simulated terror attack scenario. During this drill, two simulated terrorists portrayed an attack on a critical establishment. According to the spokesman, SOG personnel swiftly established a cordon around the area and effectively neutralised the simulated threat.
This exercise aimed to rigorously test the response mechanism, coordination, tactical preparedness, and the ability of personnel to handle contingencies. Samba Senior Superintendent of Police, Anuj Kumar, emphasized the police’s unwavering commitment to maintaining robust security measures. ‘Our primary concern is the safety of the public, especially with Independence Day approaching,’ Kumar stated.
Police forces have heightened their vigilance across Jammu and Kashmir in anticipation of Independence Day, which often attracts threats from various terror outfits. The administration urges citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to ensure a secure environment for the celebrations.
As part of the overall strategy to enhance security in the region, Jammu and Kashmir Police also plan to conduct further drills and training exercises. These initiatives reflect the department’s proactive approach to counter-terrorism efforts and reinforce community trust in their responsive capabilities.
