A fresh batch of 964 pilgrims began their journey for the Shri Amarnath Yatra from Jammu towards the Baltal base camp early Tuesday morning. Departing under stringent security measures, this group left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas at 3.05 a.m.
The Jammu Zonal Police Control Room reported the batch’s travel in a convoy of 39 vehicles. This included 21 buses, eight medium motor vehicles, and 10 light motor vehicles, ensuring ample space and safety for all travelers involved.
The latest batch comprised a diverse group of worshippers: 744 men, 177 women, one child, 32 sadhus, and 10 sadhvis. This pilgrimage is a significant religious event, drawing participants from across the nation.
The overall participation has now surged, with officials stating that the cumulative number of pilgrims who have departed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp during this year’s Amarnath Yatra stands at a remarkable 1,41,712.
Simultaneously, the 25th down convoy carrying returning pilgrims also set off for Jammu on the same day. This convoy included 2,073 pilgrims, with 1,552 men, 461 women, 11 children, 41 sadhus, and eight sadhvis making their way back.
The return convoy traveled in 63 vehicles, a mix comprising 42 heavy motor vehicles, six medium motor vehicles, 14 light motor vehicles, and one truck. Outdoors, the atmosphere remained festive yet respectful, with many pilgrims sharing their experiences and expressions of devotion.
Officials confirmed that the annual pilgrimage runs smoothly under multi-layer security arrangements. With both ascending and descending convoys properly scheduled, authorities effectively managed the flow of pilgrims, ensuring their safety.
