A senior officer of the Border Security Force (BSF) confirmed on Saturday that terrorists are stationed at launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) in a bid to infiltrate the Kashmir valley. Inspector General (IG) Ashok Yadav emphasized that security forces are on high alert and ready to counter these attempts.
Speaking to reporters at a press briefing, Yadav reiterated that increased infiltration attempts typically spike before the arrival of winter. He stated, “There are always attempts to infiltrate before snowfall. There are still about two months left before the snow, and chances of infiltration exist until November since they know opportunities diminish for the next six months.”
He explained that terrorists currently wait at the launch pads for suitable conditions to cross into Indian territory. “There is a significant presence of terrorists along the LoC opposite our area of responsibility (AOR) in the Bandipora and Kupwara sectors. They are persistently seeking opportunities to infiltrate, but we maintain stringent security measures,” Yadav added.
Yadav noted the potential for terrorists to exploit inclement weather to mask their movements. He stated, “While the infiltration attempts are ongoing, our readiness means any such efforts are likely to be thwarted.”
The BSF and Indian Army have effectively dominated the LoC, utilizing advanced surveillance technologies to monitor activities. “We are working in synergy with the Army to secure the region robustly. This year, we have successfully foiled two infiltration attempts so far. The alertness and operational methodologies we employ make it exceptionally challenging for threats to penetrate our AOR,” Yadav remarked.
The IG reiterated that the operational preparedness of the forces remains top-notch, especially with the application of new surveillance equipment designed to enhance their monitoring capabilities. “With enhanced vigilant practices, we are well-equipped to handle any scenarios posed by infiltrating terrorists,” Yadav concluded.
