Kupwara, September 22: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse (IAS), flagged off a group of beneficiaries for an exposure-cum-training visit to the Government Sheep Breeding Farm in Poshnar, Rajwar Kupwara. This initiative, organized by the Department of Sheep Husbandry under the SEWA PARV program, aims to enhance the skills of local sheep rearers.
During the event, DC Suse expressed appreciation for the department’s dedication to empowering local breeders. He assured beneficiaries of the government’s full support in adopting modern sheep rearing methods. “Livestock holds immense potential for improving livelihoods and increasing income, especially in rural areas,” he stated.
District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr. Ishrat, highlighted that the training program aims to equip beneficiaries with essential skills through hands-on experience in scientific sheep rearing practices. The exposure visit will cover various crucial aspects including flock management, breeding practices, and animal healthcare.
Dr. Ishrat noted that initiatives like this facilitate farmers in adopting improved management techniques. “These practices will not only raise productivity but also ensure better welfare for animals,” he added.
Technical experts from the department will conduct interactive sessions at the farm during the visit. This will allow beneficiaries to acquire first-hand knowledge of modern techniques that can lead to higher returns and sustainable growth in sheep husbandry. The exposure visit will also demonstrate innovative practices that participants can replicate in their own settings.
This program reflects the ongoing commitment of the Department of Sheep Husbandry to uplift the socio-economic status of sheep rearers in the Kupwara district. By promoting self-reliance through livestock-based entrepreneurship, the initiative significantly contributes to strengthening the rural economy in the region.
