New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has filed an application with the Supreme Court, seeking a seven-day extension of his interim bail to undergo medical examinations, including a PET-CT scan.
Previously, the top court granted CM Kejriwal interim bail in the money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam, with a directive to surrender on June 2. The bail is set to expire on June 1.
According to the Aam Aadmi Party, CM Kejriwal’s health has deteriorated since his arrest in the alleged Delhi excise scam. The party reported that he has lost 7 kg and has dangerously high ketone levels, indicating a serious medical condition. They assert that seven days are needed to complete the necessary medical tests.
On May 17, the Supreme Court reserved its verdict on CM Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest and subsequent remand by the federal anti-money laundering agency in the excise policy case. The court stated that Kejriwal could still approach the trial court for regular bail despite the pending judgment.
During the hearing, a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta emphasized that its order clearly outlined the timeline for CM Kejriwal’s “release and surrender,” with no exceptions.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed an application with a Delhi court seeking a 14-day extension of Kejriwal’s judicial custody, set to commence after the expiry of his interim bail on June 2.
