Extreme Forest Fire Risk Forecasted in Jammu and Kashmir Amid Heat Wave

Jammu, May 23: As temperatures continue to soar across the region, the Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JK-DMA) has issued a warning of an “extreme forest fire” risk over the next seven days. This advisory highlights the potential for significant fire incidents across the Himalayan region’s forest areas due to the ongoing heat wave.

In their advisory, the JK-DMA urged residents to be vigilant and report any forest fire incidents immediately by dialing 112 for a prompt response. “Extreme forest fire risk is likely to occur over forest areas in the next 7 days. People are requested to report any incidents on 112 for prompt response. Dial 112 for any help,” stated the JK-DMA.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) also reinforced this warning, predicting that the heat wave conditions over the plains of Jammu and Kashmir will persist for the next six days. “Overall, no significant weather activity is expected till May 31,” said a MeT official. “Heat wave over the plains of Jammu Division and Kashmir Division is likely to continue during the next six days, with hilly districts also expected to experience hot and dry weather.”

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate the risk of forest fires and protect themselves from the severe heat. The authorities have emphasized the importance of community vigilance and timely reporting to ensure swift action in case of fire incidents.
