On Monday, police in Jammu and Kashmir seized over one kilogram of charas and arrested two alleged drug peddlers during targeted operations in Shopian and Budgam districts. The actions illustrate the authorities’ unwavering commitment to combat drug trafficking in the region.
In Shopian, police acted on specific intelligence which led them to execute a search warrant obtained from the Chief Judicial Magistrate. Officers from Police Station Zainapora registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act before proceeding to the home of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Humhuna Nagbal.
Under the supervision of the Station House Officer (SHO) Zainapora and an Executive Magistrate 1st Class, a police team raided Sheikh’s residence. During the search, they recovered one kilogram of a charas-like substance alongside a grinder machine that authorities believe was used for processing the drugs.
“The accused is currently absconding, and we are making extensive efforts to apprehend him,” a police official stated.
Simultaneously, near Naghard Wachi, police intercepted a suspect during a routine checkpoint. The individual, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh from Pombia Kulgam, was found with 101 grams of charas-like substance. In this case, a new FIR, No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act, was registered at Police Station Zainapora as investigations continued.
In Budgam district, police intensified their anti-drug operations, leading to the arrest of another suspect during a routine naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora. The arrested man, Moomin Qadir Dhobi, hails from Dharambugh Kralpora, and police discovered 112 grams of charas in his possession.
A fresh investigation has been initiated under FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chadoora. The ongoing enforcement of drug laws reflects authorities’ commitment to rooting out the drug menace in the region.
The ongoing drug enforcement actions in Shopian and Budgam highlight the local police’s determination to confront drug-related crimes. As part of their broader strategy, law enforcement agencies continue to collaborate with the community, ensuring that those involved in drug trafficking face strict legal consequences.
