{"id":976,"date":"2024-03-14T05:59:40","date_gmt":"2024-03-14T05:59:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riyasatnamanews.in\/?p=976"},"modified":"2024-03-14T05:59:43","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T05:59:43","slug":"kejriwal-challenges-summons-in-sessions-court-in-delhi-excise-scam-case-initiated-by-ed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riyasatnamanews.in\/index.php\/2024\/03\/14\/kejriwal-challenges-summons-in-sessions-court-in-delhi-excise-scam-case-initiated-by-ed\/","title":{"rendered":"Kejriwal Challenges Summons in Sessions Court in Delhi Excise Scam Case Initiated by ED"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>New Delhi, Mar 14:<\/strong>&nbsp;Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has moved a sessions court on Thursday, March 24, 2024, to challenge the summons issued to him by a lower court in response to two complaints filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding his alleged evasion of summons in a money laundering case related to an excise scam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Syal is expected to consider Mr. Kejriwal\u2019s applications later today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Kejriwal\u2019s appeal to the sessions court comes against the orders of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Divya Malhotra, who directed him to appear before the court on March 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed two complaints before the magisterial court seeking Mr. Kejriwal\u2019s prosecution for repeatedly failing to appear despite multiple summons in the case. The most recent complaint focuses on Mr. Kejriwal\u2019s failure to respond to summons numbered four to eight under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, the ED had approached the magisterial court regarding Mr. Kejriwal\u2019s non-compliance with the first three summons issued in the money laundering case linked to the now-abolished Delhi excise policy. The court of ACMM Malhotra has scheduled a hearing for March 16 to address both complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the ED, Mr. Kejriwal has avoided eight summonses issued by the agency to
