Srinagar, Feb 28: Amid cloud cover, night temperature recorded a rise in Kashmir Valley even as Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded minus 2.4\u00b0C and minus 5.6\u00b0C respectively on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar recorded a minimum of 4.5\u00b0C against previous night\u2019s 1.0\u00b0C. It was below normal by 0.5\u00b0C for the summer capital of J&K for this time of the year, the MeT official told GNS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Qazigund recorded a minimum of 2.0\u00b0C against 1.2\u00b0C on the previous night and it was 1.6\u00b0C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 2.4\u00b0C against minus 1.3\u00b0C on the previous night and it was 1.1\u00b0C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 1.1\u00b0C against minus 0.3\u00b0C on the previous night and the temperature was above normal by 1.0\u00b0C for the place, the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kupwara town recorded a low of 1.0\u00b0C against 0.4\u00b0C on the previous night and it was 1.0\u00b0C above normal there, the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 5.6\u00b0C against minus 6.4\u00b0C on the previous night. The temperature was above normal by 0.2\u00b0C for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jammu, he said, recorded a minimum of 8.1\u00b0C and it was below normal by 3.5\u00b0C for the winter capital of J&K.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Banihal recorded a low of 3.6\u00b0C, Batote 3.1\u00b0C and Bhaderwah 1.2\u00b0C, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MeT also issued an advisory cautioning about the disruption of surface and air transport in the valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It said that an active Western disturbance is most likely to affect J&K and adjoining areas from 29th evening\/night onwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the influence of this system, it said, widespread moderate rain\/snow is expected in Jammu and Kashmir from 29th night\/early morning of 01 March till the afternoon of 3rd March with its peak activity on 2nd March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe above system is most likely to cause heavy to very heavy rain\/snow over Pirpanjal Range of Jammu division and middle & higher reaches of Kashmir Division (Anantnag-Pahalgam, Kulgam, Sinthan Pass, Shupiyan-Pir Ki Gali, Sonamarg-Zojila, Bandipora-Razdan Pass, Gulmarg and Kupwara-Sachna Pass),\u201d read the advisory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The weather activity may lead to disruption of surface and air transport including Jammu-Srinagar highway and other major roads of middle and higher reaches of J&K.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It urged the people in snow bound areas to avoid venturing into sloppy and Avalanche prone areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cChances of landslides, mudslides & shooting stones most likely over the vulnerable areas,\u201d it said, adding, \u201cFarmers are advised to withhold all farm operations during 1st week of March.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While \u2018Chillai-Kalan\u2019, the 40-day harsh period of winter ended on January 29 and 20-day-long winter period called \u2018Chillai-Khurd\u2019 ended on February 19, Kashmir is the middle 10-day-long period \u2018Chillai-Bachha\u2019 (baby cold) which culminates on March 1.
