Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh on Tuesday said the police action against protesters during their \u201cSansad Chalo\u201d march was \u201cwrong\u201d and insisted that the government must listen to students\u2019 demand, while acknowledging that he could once again be labelled \u201canti-national\u201d.<\/p>\n
As part of the Cockroach Janta Party\u2019s (CJP) \u201cSansad Chalo\u201d protest, thousands of protesters gathered on Monday marched towards Parliament but were met with tear gas and lathi-charge by police.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat happened today was very wrong. Students should not have been treated like this. I request the authorities to listen to the students\u2019 demands. The voice of the people is the voice of God,\u201d Diljit wrote in Punjabi on his Intagram Stories.<\/p>\n
The actor also recalled the backlash and legal issues he faced when he supported the yearlong farmer\u2019s protests in 2020-2021.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have already been labelled an \u2018anti-national\u2019 many times. Even now, I know I will be called anti-national again. After the farmers\u2019 protest, I faced a lot of backlash and legal problems that I still cannot even discuss. The rest, God is watching everything. May Baba bless everyone,\u201d the \u201cMain Vaapas Aaunga\u201d actor said.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, Diljit had distanced himself from the CJP protest, saying he is an artiste, not a politician.<\/p>\n
\u201cKeep me away from all this\u2026 Bro, I\u2019m an artist. I\u2019m no politician, I don\u2019t know what you think I am,\u201d Diljit had said during an Instagram Live session on July 1.<\/p>\n
The CJP, an organic movement against paper leaks and alleged irregularities in the exam system that started with a comment by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant referring to the youth as \u2018cockroaches\u2019, has been sitting at Jantar Mantar since June 20. The protest gathered traction with activist Sonam Wangchuk\u2019s hunger strike.<\/p>\n
