JAMMU, June 14: Neelam Gupta, one of the 41 injured in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir\u2019s Reasi district, recounted the harrowing incident on June 9 when terrorists attacked a bus carrying pilgrims, killing nine and injuring dozens. The bus was transporting pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra when it veered off the road due to indiscriminate firing and fell into a gorge near Teryath village in Poni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the bus’s fall, the terrorists continued to fire, Neelam Gupta said, emphasizing the sheer brutality of the attack. The 53-seater bus, filled with pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi, became a target, resulting in a tragic loss of life and numerous injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Neelam was traveling with her family, including her husband Devi Prasad Gupta, their children Prince and Palak, her sister Bittan, relative Dinesh Gupta, and friend Deepak Kumar Rai. They returned to their home in Bhikharipur village in Uttar Pradesh\u2019s Gonda district after receiving treatment in Jammu. However, Neelam’s brother, Rajesh Gupta, remains in critical condition at a Jammu hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We left for Jammu on June 4 by train. Our plan included visiting the Maa Vaishno Devi shrine on June 9, the day our bus was attacked,” Devi Prasad Gupta said. He described how the terrorists targeted the bus driver, causing the vehicle to overturn and plummet into the gorge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Neelam Gupta detailed the terrifying moments following the crash. “Even after the bus fell into the gorge, the terrorists kept firing. It seemed their goal was to kill everyone on the bus,” she said. Passengers lay low to avoid being hit by bullets, and after the firing ceased, locals helped extract the injured from the bus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Security personnel arrived shortly after and transported the wounded to hospitals in ambulances. Neelam, who sustained a fracture in her left leg, and her husband, who suffers from pain in his ribs and hands, expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the administrative and police teams from Gonda district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
