JAMMU, June 13: In response to a series of terror incidents in the Jammu region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting, which included Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, focused on counter-terrorism operations and the deployment of security forces in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prime Minister Modi also spoke to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to get an on-the-ground assessment and to discuss ongoing counter-terrorism measures. The security review came in the wake of four terror incidents in Jammu over four days, including a deadly attack on a bus carrying Shiv Khori pilgrims in Reasi district that resulted in nine civilian deaths and 43 injuries. The attack occurred just an hour before Modi’s oath-taking ceremony. Subsequent incidents included a deadly encounter in Hiranagar, Kathua district, which left two terrorists and a CRPF jawan dead, and two attacks in Doda district, injuring seven security personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi directed officials to deploy the “full spectrum of counter-terror capabilities” in Jammu and Kashmir. NSA Doval provided a comprehensive overview of the security situation and counter-terror efforts. Modi also discussed with Amit Shah the strategic deployment of security forces and the operational aspects of counter-terror measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Prime Minister is set to visit Srinagar for International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21, with plans to arrive on the evening of June 20. This visit underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring security in the region, particularly with the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra starting on June 29, which will last until August 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lieutenant Governor Sinha has been actively engaging with top police and security officials, chairing Unified Headquarters meetings in Srinagar to bolster security measures. The Central and UT Governments are keen to avoid any security lapses, especially given the recent attack on Shiv Khori pilgrims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ministry of Home Affairs is closely monitoring the situation, with regular briefings from top J&K officials. Additional paramilitary forces are expected to arrive in the region starting June 15, with full deployment by June 25, ahead of the Amarnath Yatra.
