A major security alert unfolded in Ramban district on Friday after a Scorpio vehicle allegedly breached a police checkpoint at Chanderkote and fled towards Nashri despite multiple attempts by personnel to stop it.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when the Scorpio, with registration number JK02AK-1743, was traveling from the Srinagar side towards Jammu.
Police at the Chanderkote security checkpoint signaled the vehicle to halt, but the driver reportedly ignored the instructions and sped away.
In an attempt to prevent the vehicle’s escape, police personnel fired three rounds. However, the vehicle continued towards Nashri, prompting a comprehensive search operation that included contingents from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Central Reserve Police Force, and the Army.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban, Arun Gupta, arrived at the scene to supervise the ongoing operation aimed at apprehending the vehicle and understanding its intent.
Following extensive searching efforts, authorities seized the suspicious Scorpio near Dalwas. SSP Gupta confirmed the development, stating, “The district police have seized the suspicious Scorpio near Dalwas, and further investigation is underway. Detailed information will be shared after the investigation progresses.”
Security forces intensified their searches in the surrounding area in response to the incident. The reasons behind the vehicle’s alleged evasion of the security checkpoint remain unclear. Law enforcement has stated that all aspects of the incident are under thorough investigation.
