Cloudburst at Kwar Hydroelectric Project, Landslide Blocks Jammu–Kishtwar Road

Heavy rainfall triggered by a cloudburst caused widespread disruption at the under-construction Kwar Hydroelectric Project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district late Sunday night, while a landslide in neighbouring Doda district blocked the Jammu-Kishtwar Road.

The cloudburst unleashed a massive flow of mud, rocks and debris into the Kwar Hydroelectric Project site, trapping several vehicles under the debris and disrupting work at the project. Officials are assessing the extent of the damage and closely monitoring the situation. No casualties have been reported so far.

Meanwhile, continuous heavy rainfall also triggered a landslide in the Prem Nagar area of Doda district, resulting in the closure of the vital Jammu-Kishtwar Road after debris from the hillside spilled onto the highway.

Authorities have deployed teams to the affected stretch, and restoration work is underway to clear the debris and reopen the road for traffic at the earliest.

Officials said the administration is maintaining close surveillance on the weather conditions as restoration operations continue in both affected districts.

Further details are awaited.
