Doda Police Crack Motorcycle Theft Case in 48 Hours

Doda, November 08, 2025: In an impressive display of efficiency, Doda Police solved a motorcycle theft case within 48 hours, arresting two suspects and recovering the vehicle. This crackdown reflects the police’s commitment to public safety in the region.

On November 5, 2025, a written complaint was lodged at Police Station Assar by Omair Ullah Wani, a local resident, reporting the theft of his motorcycle, registration number JK06A-6107, from the Jathi locality. The complaint set the wheels in motion for a swift police response.

Authorities registered FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 302(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Responding to the report, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), directed a special investigative team. Led by Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Shivam Dev Singh and supervised by DySP DAR Doda alongside the Station House Officer (SHO) of Assar Police Station, the team set out to solve the case.

Through diligent investigation and following specific leads, police detained two suspects in the early hours of November 6. Upon questioning, both individuals confessed to stealing the motorcycle on the night of October 26. The police subsequently recovered the stolen motorcycle from their possession.

The arrested individuals have been identified as: 1️⃣ Mohd Tariq @ Baffer, son of Mohd Aslam, hailing from Bhagtha, Katra in District Reasi, a known habitual offender and fugitive; and 2️⃣ Munish Kumar, son of Mansa Ram from Bali Chanalra, Bhalesa in District Doda.

Upon further investigation, authorities uncovered a lengthy criminal history for Mohd Tariq @ Baffer. This habitual offender stands accused in numerous thefts and burglaries across various districts and states. His criminal record includes multiple FIRs registered under diverse sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Crucially, the police revealed that Mohd Tariq had been evading arrest for quite some time, wanted in districts like Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Kangra, Dharamshala, Nurpur, and Shimla. The Hon’ble Court had issued a general warrant for his arrest under Section 512 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.PC), underscoring the seriousness of his past offenses.

The Doda Police’s swift actions in this case illustrate their unwavering commitment to combating crime. This rapid arrest showcases their dedication to maintaining peace and safety in the district.
