Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra declared her party’s firm opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists proposed by the Election Commission (EC) during her visit to Kerala on Wednesday. This announcement came as part of her ongoing commitment to uphold electoral integrity in the region.
During her two-day visit, Gandhi confronted the media in her Wayanad constituency, accusing the EC of leveraging the SIR process as a tool for manipulating electoral rolls. She asserted, “The Election Commission is planning to carry out SIR of voter lists in many states, including Kerala, and we will strongly oppose it.”
Gandhi urged that experience from the SIR implementation in Bihar raised alarm about potential electoral malfeasance. “Given how they have done it in Bihar, we have fought against it in Parliament and outside it. We will continue to fight against it everywhere,” she stated emphatically.
She characterized the SIR as “the only way of committing fraud and cheating in the election,” underscoring that such processes could endanger democratic principles. Further elaborating, she remarked, “We have seen what they did in Bihar and how they implemented SIR there. If that is what they are going to do in every state, then it is an affront to democracy, and we have to fight it.”
In alignment with her commitment to development, Priyanka Gandhi inaugurated the newly constructed Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government Ayurveda Dispensary building in Ernad, Malappuram, earlier in the day. This initiative underscores her ongoing efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure in her constituency.
Her morning started at Karipur airport, after which she traveled by road to Wayanad. It is reported that she has scheduled inaugurations of various development projects throughout her visit, signaling her focus on local governance and community wellbeing.
