NFJM Launches Press & Media Centre in Jammu to Boost Journalism

The National Foundation for Journalism & Media (NFJM) launched its first Press & Media Centre in Jammu on September 24, 2023, marking a significant milestone in promoting ethical journalism practices.

Located at F-1/8C, Trikuta Shopping Complex, B.C. Road, this centre aims to strengthen the foundations of informed and responsible reporting in the region. The inauguration ceremony featured Dr. Tahir Rufayee, Chairman of NFJM, alongside various media professionals, journalists, and local community members.

Dr. Rufayee expressed optimism about the centre’s potential impact on journalism, stating, “This Press & Media Centre will serve as a hub for fair reporting, informed public engagement, and responsible journalism. NFJM is committed to strengthening democratic values through truthful and ethical media practices.”

The NFJM Press & Media Centre will provide vital facilities including news reporting and publications, press conferences, media briefings, research and analysis, as well as public engagements. This initiative is designed to create a professional platform where journalists and media practitioners can collaborate, thus promoting transparent and accountable journalism.

S.Harjeet Singh, who led the initiative under the banner of NFJM, highlighted the importance of the centre. “Our goal is to foster a culture where media professionals can engage in constructive dialogue and informed reporting. This centre will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of journalism in Jammu,” Singh stated.

The establishment of this centre comes at a time when the media landscape in India faces various challenges, including misinformation and the need for responsible reporting. By creating a dedicated space for media activities, NFJM aims to address these issues head-on, enabling journalists to uphold the highest ethical standards.

Moreover, the initiative aligns with NFJM’s broader mission to cultivate an environment where democratic principles and free expression thrive. As media continues to evolve, such centres are essential for training and equipping journalists with the skills, resources, and ethical framework necessary for their work.

The Press & Media Centre in Jammu will serve as a critical resource for local journalists, offering not only a place for collaboration and innovation but also safeguarding the integrity of news reporting as a key pillar of democracy.

In conclusion, the NFJM Press & Media Centre represents a vital step forward in fostering a community of informed, ethical journalists in Jammu. As more media professionals utilize this dedicated space, the hope is that it will lead to richer public discourse and an enhanced democratic framework in the region.
