Manipur Government Announces Rs 10,000 Immediate Relief for Flood-Affected Families

IMPHAL, Jun 14 : The Manipur government has announced an immediate relief of Rs 10,000 for each family affected by the recent floods, an official stated on Friday. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday evening.

In addition to discussing flood relief, the cabinet also addressed several state issues. One significant resolution was the formation of a cabinet sub-committee dedicated to the rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the ethnic violence in the region.

The floods, which primarily impacted the Imphal Valley, resulted from breached river embankments following heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Remal in the last week of May. More than 1.88 lakh people have been affected, and over 24,000 houses have sustained damage.

The relief effort is part of the state government’s broader strategy to assist those affected by both the natural disaster and ongoing ethnic violence. The newly constituted sub-committee will focus on developing comprehensive plans to rehabilitate and resettle displaced persons, aiming to restore normalcy to the affected communities.
